Rachel manages to escape from her cuffs using a hair pin (bobby pin) the release the locks. She flees into the woods, hoping to find someone to help her. Instead, she encounters the director who discovered her missing, and guessed what she would try to do. Because he is expecting guests, he ties Rachel to a tree deep in the woods, gagging her to keep her quiet, then leaves her alone, promising to return by evening to retrieve her. Rachel struggles against the ropes but is unable to get free. She is compelled to stand there until the director returns for her. Not that she is going to be more comfortable as a result. Annoyed that she tried to get away and spoil his plans for his partner, he places Rachel in a strappado tie, pushes a cloth into her mouth and coils vet wrap around her head, shutting her up completely.
